I needed to use ZIF ribbon cable 1.8 inch SSD hard drive in a new SATA laptop. This did the trick. I did have to cut off the mounting area of the board so that it would fit in the new laptop. There is no circuitry in that area of the board, so it did not hurt the function. I cut off quite a bit (over an inch).

My Zune 120gb crapped out on me [overheated in the sun.] I wanted to see if the HDD was still good to go. Plugged it into this and hooked it up to my computer. Detected immediately. Formatted the HDD and everything worked great!

I upgraded my laptop hard drive to an SSD drive and bought this to make my existing drive usable in a SATA USB case I had. Everything worked, but it took a couple of tries to figure out which cable combination to use and to make sure it's connected properly. A simple one-page set of instructions would have been appreciated. Some electrical tape helped secure my drive to the top of the adapter.
Basically, if the drive light shines bright red and your computer doesn't recognize it, flip the cable around. Please note this is for a PATA/ZIF drive.

The description for this adapter is misleading. The CE-ATA interface is a 18-pin serial interface based on the MMC standard. This adapter card does NOT use an 18-pin ZIF connector, rather it uses a 40-pin ZIF connector meant for a PATA interface not CE-ATA. If your drive uses the smaller 18-pin CE-ATA interface this card is useless to you.
